Lessons From Texts: Trouble Shooter vs. Trouble Maker

1839

An up and coming logistics manager received this text message from the boss: “Hire a trouble shooter!” – meaning someone to examine the company’s struggling Implementation Initiative.

Anxious to please, the underling read the memo so quickly that he took action without fully understanding the directive.

The result? He hired a trouble MAKER – a guy who threw food in the cafeteria, changed all the bullets in the mission statement to begin with, “Hey!” and sabotaged three synergies before they could be maximized.

The lesson: Read all text messages at least twice before acting.
