Over the past five years, 22.4 million Americans have lost their jobs due to inadvertently writing something someone else found inappropriate.
To help prevent this, many companies have installed JobBSafe on the computers, phones and tablets of their employees. The security program automatically redacts from emails and other documents any word or phrase that might in any way be considered offensive to anyone at any place at any time.
At $15,000 per device, the program isn’t cheap – and even with volume discounts it would cost over $8 million to outfit a company with 500 employees. That’s money well spent, according to many industry experts.
“What you’re buying is employee peace of mind,” says Professor Rhonda Olson of the Lerner Institute in Mason City, Iowa. “Staffers no longer have to stop and think before typing every word, fearful that the slightest slip-up might cause their ruination.” That means they’re able to focus more fully on advancing the mission, vision and bottom line, she says.
On the average, according to the institute, productivity at companies using JobBSafe increases by 45 percent within the first year.
Here is an example of a redacted email:
I ______ ____ ____ because if we were to _______ ____ neurologically _______ ____ then ____ ____. Accordingly, _____ – or at the very least ______ ____ ____ ______ – because _____ less would _____ ____ itinerary. That is ____ ____ plutonium ____ _____ and ______ easily. But _____ _____ teleprompter _____ ______
