Monica Masterson, of Boulder, Colorado’s Piltdown Group, broke through the glass ceiling on February 22, the first woman in the transactionals company’s 45-year history to do so.
Unfortunately, she suffered some skull lacerations and a slight concussion in the process – injuries that rendered her unable to assume her new job as Vice President of Accommodations.
“Everyone was so thrilled when Monica finally broke through,” says Robert Ambers, the company’s VP of Resolutions. “But of course we were all shocked and disappointed that it turned out the way it did.”
Over the past 22 years, Masterson has excelled in every job she’s held, says Ambers, and has been continually promoted to high-visibility positions, including to Director of Advanced Remediation in 2019.
“Obviously we are not happy with the situation,” says Piltdown CEO Mark Rawlings. “We have always supported women wanting to break through the glass ceiling, and we provided Ms. Masterson with numerous opportunities to help her achieve that goal. But we expected her to achieve it in a safe and responsible manner.”
Meanwhile, Masterson’s assistant, Paul Salant, has been appointed to her VP spot – though Rawlings has indicated there’s a good chance there will be another job for Masterson once she’s recovered.
“We can’t make any promises and it probably won’t be a VP position,” he says. “But I’m betting we can find her a good, steady job where she no longer poses a danger to herself.”
